Crate Paper | Happy Together

I always love to create layouts, that include my favorite things!  Those favorite things include, hand-stitching, wood grain, my Silhouette Cameo, and the Crate Paper Chasing Dreams collection by Maggie Holmes!  This layout came together just as I envisioned it and it was quick and easy.

I started this layout by drawing a large ampersand with the Silhouette Sketch Pens on a wood grain paper.  Then I stitched over the lines with a dark Pink embroidery floss.  I wanted to add my photo and embellishments inside the ampersand shape, so I placed my photo first.

Next, I started adding a mix of embellishments from the Chasing Dreams collection to the layout.  I mixed chipboard, ephemera pieces, stickers, and buttons to fill in all of the space inside the ampersand.  I love the look of the bright colors from the collection, against the wood grain background!

Crate Paper | She Sells Sea Shells

Summer days are here, and the Oasis collection from Crate Paper is perfect for documenting summer memories!  We recently went on vacation to the beach, so I have a lot of photos to get on layouts.  The inspiration for this layout, started with my photo and a tongue twister that went along with the photo.

I wanted to use the She Sells Sea Shells tongue twister, since our daughter was holding up a shell she found on the beach.  I cut the title on my Silhouette Cameo from one of the papers in the Chasing Dreams collection.  I wanted a more subtle pattern for the background paper, so I could back each of the words with a patterned paper from the Oasis collection.  After looking through the Oasis papers, I couldn't find one that I thought would work for the full background, but fortunately the papers across the CP collections coordinate really well together.

Once all of the words were backed, I machine stitched with a zig zag stitch and a straight stitch.  I like the look the mix of stitches adds to the title.  I placed the photo in the center of the layout, and then started my embellishing, to create a collage look inside the circle.  I used a mix of the Oasis Ephemera Pieces, Chipboard, Stickers, Puffy Stickers and Buttons inside the circle created from the title.  I love having a mix of different kinds of embellishments filling in a shape.

I had a lot of fun with this layout design, and it came together really quickly!  It's important to balance your embellishments, when you're creating this type of design, so make sure you pay attention to the size, color and type of embellishment you're using when creating a collage look on your projects.

Crate Paper | Dreams Are for Chasing

Crate Paper and florals go together like peanut butter and jelly!  I always love the floral designs that are part of the Maggie Holmes collections.  I thought it would be fun to pair the Chasing Dreams collection, with a large die cut flower, that I could back with a mix of patterned papers.

The cut file is a design by Paige Evans and I used it two ways.  I cut the design from White card stock, and flipped it to trace it onto the right side of the background paper, before filling the open spaces with patterned paper.  Once I had all of the design backed with papers from the Chasing Dreams 6x6 paper pad, I adhered it to the background paper and lined it up with the traced pencil line.  Then I punched holes with my paper piercer and stitched over the pencil line.

I placed my photo on the right side of the flower, to fill in the open space.  I loved the effect of all of the patterned paper on the left side of the flower and the look of the background paper showing through the right side of the flower.  I used the “Dreams Are for Chasing” sticker for the title of my layout, and placed it right under the photo.

The fringe butterflies are one of my favorite embellishments from the collection, and I thought one would be perfect on a floral themed layout.  I also brought in a couple of other flowers from the Ephemera Pack and the Chipboard sticker sheet to balance the right side of the layout.

I finished the layout with a few smaller embellishments and a few word phrases, to avoid over-filling the layout. I definitely wanted the large flower and patterned papers to be the focus of the design.

Crate Paper | Lovely Dreams

When you need to do a quick layout, it's easy if you're using the beautiful Chasing Dreams collection from Crate Paper by Maggie Holmes!  I'm here today to share a layout, that took about 20 minutes from start to finish!

I went with all patterned paper for this layout and a simple grid design.  Using the phrase patterned paper for the full background, makes it look like more work went into the layout.  I cut 3.5x3.5 inch squares from the 6x6 paper pad to create a grid in the center of the layout.  Then I machine stitched around each of the edges, for added texture.

I used the fringe butterflies in the center of each of the patterned paper squares, to fill the space with a large embellishment.  Then I used the chipboard phrases for my title.  To finish the layout, I added a few stickers, gold heart and button.  

I loved putting this layout together, and it just goes to show, that we don't have to spend hours on a layout to get a great end result!

Crate Paper | Emma Madeline

Oh how I love working with a brand new collection from Crate Paper!  Whatever collection Maggie Holmes comes up with, it's always my favorite...and now I'm adding Chasing Dreams to my favorite list!  I am in love with the colors and fun embellishments and of course, the beautiful patterned papers!  I am so glad I have two girls, which allows me to go full on girly with this collection, but there are great patterns and elements that can also be used for masculine layouts.

Our middle daughter’s birthday is the day after Christmas, and I always have a photo shoot for each of the kids for their birthday.  Emma’s photo shoot is never boring, because it usually involves funny faces, stuffed animals and a Peruvian hat.  I captured some great shots of her, and this one pretty much sums this girl up!  As I looked through the Chasing Dreams patterned papers, the Delicate pattern caught my eye.  I loved the Pink on Pink polka dots and the large pattern.  I wanted to make it even more interesting, so I layered the Glitter on Acetate paper over it.

If you’re intimidated by using the Acetate papers, it’s very easy.  Here’s what I like to do.  Start out by figuring out the rough design for your layout…where you want to place your photo and any embellishments.  Once you have that in mind, add adhesive to your background paper and then place your Acetate sheet over it.  This will secure the Acetate to your background paper and the adhesive will be hidden behind your photo and embellishments.  You can also add a bit of machine stitching, if you have a sewing machine, for extra adhesion.

  
I tend to use smaller photos on my layouts, but I wanted this photo a bit larger, so it wouldn’t get lost in the embellishments and background paper.  I used a mix of the Ephemera Pieces, Puffy Stickers, word phrase Stickers and Chipboard to create a layered banner under the photo.  I wanted a simple title, so our daughter’s name was perfect for the layout.  I grabbed one of the tags from the Ephemera Pieces pack and layered the title over it, using the Cloud Puffy Letter Stickers.

  

When I have a large polka dot, I can’t resist placing embellishments in the center of the circle!  I wanted to fill several of the polka dots around the layout with a mix of embellishments from Chasing Dreams.  I used the Vintage Buttons, Puffy Stickers, Stickers and Collect Chipboard Stickers to balance out the design on the layout.
