Hip Kit Club | You & Me

I'm here today to share a new layout and card for Hip Kit Club, using the May 2014 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits!!  I still can't get enough of the Triangle trend, so I decided to use the shape on my layout and card!!

I wanted to use some large Triangles in the background on this layout. I like to mix shapes and I love the look of the Triangles against the fun hexagon pattern on the Pink Paislee Hello Sunshine patterned paper from the May 2014 Main Kit. And I wanted to incorporate some of the awesome clear tags from Chic Tags new Cloud 9 collection, that are a part of the May 2014 Embellishment Kit.

You can combine your scrap pieces with the fun May Triangle cut file, for a quick and easy card. I used a White on White base and then just placed several different patterned papers behind some of the triangles. One of the Pink Paislee Hello Sunshine Chipboard pieces combined with the Basic Grey letter stickers, made a perfect sentiment for my card.  If you would like to download the Hip Kit Cut Files for May, visit the Hip Kit Club Facebook page!!

Next week, I will have my last layout using the May 2014 Hip Kits, and then I will be sharing my projects created with the June 2014 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits!!  If you would like to place an order to receive any of the June Hip Kits, make sure you visit the Shop!!

And before I go, I wanted to share that I opened an Etsy Shop, The Cut Shoppe!!  I will have Digital Cut Files for sale, in PNG format, to be used with the Silhouette Cameo software.  There are a few cut files currently available and I will be creating and adding new ones to the shop.  I would love for you to drop by and check it out HERE!!

Creative Scrappers Sketch 269 | The Good Life

Happy Memorial Day weekend!  I hope you are enjoying a fun-filled, long weekend with your family as we remember and celebrate those have given their life to bring our freedoms.  Today, we have a new reveal for Creative Scrappers, and this is the last reveal for some of our current Team members and the new Team will begin sharing their layouts starting in June.  Make sure you pop over to the Creative Scrappers Blog, to see what everyone created, based on our Sketch from Kristine Davidson.  The Team from My Creative Scrapbook is joining in the reveal with us today, also!!

I have been (im)patiently waiting for the new Cloud 9 collection from Chic Tags to start shipping, and I bought some as soon as it was added to the shop!!  How awesome are those Wood Sequins!!  Had to have those!  I was actually waiting for it to arrive, before I started this Sketch, because I knew the two would be great together!!  I used the same concept for the Sketch, but I condensed my design just a bit.  I stitched around a few of the square shapes, and folded the edges up just a bit to create some texture.  The clouds were fussy cut from the Dreamy patterned paper, and I used them to break up the square design.  The little cluster at the bottom of the grid, was the result of a Spray Mist "incident", but I actually liked that it broke up the grid design.

We would love for you to play along with us and you could win a prize from this month's Sponsor, Noel Mignon!  Just link up your layout based on Sketch 269, and you could also be selected as our Weekly Featured Layout!

Hip Kit Club | Crazy Cool Kid

I have a fun layout to share with you today for Hip Kit Club, using the May 2014 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits.  And this one is also based on our Sketch challenge for this month.  You can create a layout based on our sketch, share it on the Hip Kit Club Facebook page and have the chance to win a grab bag of goodies!

So first up, here is the layout and the Sketch, if you would like to play along!

Sketches are a fun way to create a layout, whether you're using it as is, or as a jumping off point for your layout. If you are stuck for a design, sometimes it's easier to sit down and draw out a sketch for your page or use a Sketch from one of your favorite Sketch sites. When I first started using Sketches, I always stayed close to the Sketch design, until I felt comfortable changing things up, to create unique looks for my pages. For my layout based on this month's Sketch, I used a mix of the Heidi Swapp and Pink Paislee papers, included in the May 2014 Hip Kit. I stayed fairly close to the Sketch, and gave it an individual look with my embellishments and by adding the cut Chevron pieces around the sides of my layout, for some extra energy and motion,

I also have a card to share today, using one of the cute cut files created by our fearless leader, Kimberly!!  :)  If you would like to use the cut files, just visit the Facebook page to download them.

The sun cut file worked perfectly with the Chipboard Hello Sunshine sentiment from the Pink Paislee Hello Sunshine collection. And since I was working with a card size, and didn't want to cut any of the patterned papers in the May 2014 Hip Kit, I chose a few of the patterns included in the Capture Snippets pad from Basic Grey, to use as my card background.

Our June Hip Kits will be shipping on June 1st, so make sure you visit the Shop, to purchase any of the Kits you would like, before they are sold out!!  I am so excited about the new Elle's Studio collection that will be shipping in the June Kits!!

Get It Scrapped! | Sunbathers

I love that the Nautical look has become popular and so many companies are creating fun collections, that you can use for a traditional nautical look on your layouts or you can also find ways to work it into layouts with everyday photos and themes.  Get It Scrapped! recently shared an article on Storytelling with a Modern Nautical Style.  My layout used the Nautical styling in the traditional way, to feature a photo of a couple of seagulls hanging out at the beach.

Since we live near the Gulf Coast, you can always be sure you will see Seagulls hanging out any time you are near the water.  I used a mix of Red, Navy, bright Blue, Green and Gold, which are colors that can be found in the Modern Nautical color scheme.  The nautical collection from Fancy Pants and an anchor motif worked well to support the Modern Nautical styling on my layout.  This styling worked well with my photo and the theme of my layout, because it gives you an immediate impression that my layout has something to do with a beach type theme.

American Crafts May Gallery | What I Think...

I have taken a "few" photos of our kids over the past 8 years, and I have used every trick in the book to try and get them to smile and look at the camera...at the same time.  Doesn't sound too difficult, right?  But apparently in the realm of children's world, it's next to impossible!  So, one of the new tactics has become, let's take a nice, smiley, everybody looking at the camera photo and then we can do a silly photo and you can go crazy.  This technique was employed for Mother's Day, and I have to say it worked fairly well.  And since I had a nice photo and a silly photo, I thought it would be fun to create a layout with the two photos and the theory of what I think our photos should look like, compared to what they really are without some bribery involved!!  :)

I love to mix my American Crafts collections, so I pulled some supplies from the Amy Tangerine Plus One collection and the Dear Lizzy Daydreamer collection. This was also a great format for using several different Thickers, from some of my favorite packs.  I decided to keep most of my embellishing to a minimum, since the photos and large title were the main focus of my layout.  Once I had my layout finished, I thought it still needed something to separate the large rectangular sections and considered stitching with Black embroidery floss.  But then I thought that the Black Mixtape Washi Tape from the Plus One collection would work just as well and save time on the stitching!

And just a reminder:  You can still play along with my Challenge from the American Crafts NSD 2014 Blog Hop.  Just use Triangles on your layout and leave a link on THIS POST by Friday, May 23rd.  I will announce a winner on Monday, May 26th, and you can also see the prize on the original post!!

Echo Park | Happy Adventurers

Echo Park is always creating such fun collections and the Capture Life Black & White and Capture Life Color collections are both two of my new favorites!  I love that you can use each collection individually to create unique projects, but you can also mix the two collections together to create a fun WOW factor!  I mixed the two collections on a new layout, with one of my favorite photos of the kids from a recent weekend trip.

Most of my patterned paper choices came from the Capture Life Black & White collection. It gave me a great neutral background for creating the base of my layout. After I put together the background for my layout, I looked through the Capture Life Color collection to choose paper and stickers that would add a fun touch of color.

The Hearts patterned paper from the Color collection, immediately caught my eye, and I knew it would work perfectly with the heart pattern on the Happy Moments patterned paper, that I chose for the background. I fussy cut several heart shapes from the Hearts patterned paper and then adhered them to my background. I also added a pop of color to my title by using stickers from the Alpha Stickers sheet, for the word “Happy”.

And don't forget, that you can always find more inspiration by checking out the Free PDF Instructions for many projects using Echo Park collections (here). Project images and easy instructions for putting the projects together are included for you.

Hip Kit Club | Hello, I Love You

I am so excited to start sharing my projects with you, using the May Kits from Hip Kit Club!  The May 2014 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits are filled with a fun mix of Pink Paislee, Basic Grey and American Crafts!  The colors are so fun and graphic, but can still be used in smaller quantities to create a more subtle look on your projects!  So today, I have a new layout and card that will hopefully give you a little bit of inspiration!!

The bright, happy colors in the May 2014 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits, immediately grabbed my attention, when I sat down to work on this layout. I normally go with a lighter background paper, but I thought the bright colored embellishments would really pop against the Black Pink Paislee Happy Days paper in the Main Kit. I also loved the cute phrase at the bottom of the Happy Days paper, so I used it as a base for building the design of my page. The Amy Tangerine Hello tag mixed with Thickers and the word "Love" from the Basic Grey Capture wood veneers made putting my title together, easy peasy! And the Basic Grey and Pink Paislee chipboard pieces offer a lot of fun embellishing options, and I used them to create little clusters on my layout.

You can put together a quick, and easy card using the May 2014 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits! If you need to put a card together in a pinch, use pre-made sentiments, like I did. The Capture Snippets from Basic Grey paired with the Chipboard pieces from Pink Paislee's Hello Sunshine collection, worked great to create a sentiment for an everyday card. I also added some dimension to my card, to compliment the Chipboard pieces, by adding pop dots under the Hello There phrase.

If you would like to purchase the May Hip Kit Main Kit or any of the Add-On Kits, make sure you visit the Hip Kit Club Shop.  And don't forget to check out the Blog for the reveal of the June Hip Kits!   Lots of the new Elle's Studio Shine collection will be included!!

Elle's Studio Sketch Thursday | Snap Click Smile

When I saw the new Sketch Thursday challenge at Elle's Studio, I knew I had to fit it in this week.  The layered colors in the background really caught my eye, and I started thinking about how I could use the different patterned papers from the Everyday Moments collection to re-create the design.  And as soon as I saw the new cut files for May, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the sketch!

http://www.shopellesstudio.com/blog/2014/05/sketch-thursday-9.html

The cute scalloped cut file was perfect for cutting the different colored patterned papers and layering them behind my photo.  Before I adhered the scalloped cut file pieces, I sprinkled spray mist in coordinating colors on my background paper.  Once the scallops were in place, I cut tags that matched each color and placed them over the scallop cuts.  I finished the design by adding enamel dots and some stamping.

Thanks for stopping in today!  Hope you're having a great week so far!!

Elle's Studio May Guest Designer

The 10th of each month is always the day to purchase the new monthly Limited Edition Kit at Elle's Studio and also the reveal day for the Design Team Gallery...and I have to say, that I am ecstatic to have two layouts and a card included in this month's Gallery reveal!  I was super excited to work with the Everyday Moments and Love You More collections as the May Guest Designer.  Here's a look at what I created for the reveal.

The Everyday Moments collection is perfect for any photo, and I love how easy it is to put a layout together using the Elle's Studio tags.  Once I had my tags and photo in place, I cut the word Hello from the March Cut Files and used it to fill in the top area of my layout.

What's cuter on a layout than a baby and the Love You More collection??!!  I snapped some cute photos of my niece Sadie on Easter weekend, and knew they would be great with the Love You More collection.  I created a film strip look with my photos and then put several tags and wood veneers to the side, to balance out the layout design.  I wanted some stitching to fill in the White space on my layout, so I cut heart shapes from my Cameo, traced them onto the White cardstock and then stitched with a light Gray embroidery floss.

And now for one of my most favorite things about Elle's Studio...their collections all coordinate so well together!  I used a mix of the Everyday Moments and Love You More collections to put together a card that can be used for any occasion.

If you haven't had a chance to visit the Design Team Gallery, make sure you stop by to see what the Design Team created this month.  And the May Limited Edition Kit is available for $11.99, along with a Patriotic Mini collection, new Wood Veneers and the May Cut Files.
