Lego Mania

On Monday, Get It Scrapped! share an article on Bold Stripes.  It's one of 2013's fashion trends and a fun look to incorporate into your scrapbook pages.

  

My husband bought a Lego set for each of the kids and they immediately wanted to sit down and start putting them together.  When I started this page, with the assignment for Bold Stripes in mind, this Amy Tan patterned paper immediately popped into my head.  I love the various colors in the stripes and thought it resembled stacked blocks, which goes along with the Lego theme on my page.  I paired the Bold Stripes with a light Gray grid pattern from Studio Calico, which reminded me of an architectural pattern, which also works well with the theme of my layout.

I have a new layout to share today for Artful Delight, using the February Kit.  I love the versatility in this Kit and I mixed together some of the Basic Grey papers and Authentique papers for this page.

  
I like using patterned papers for my full background sheets, but the pattern is usually a little more subtle.  I thought it would be fun to take a more graphic approach with the Black chevron paper and then mix in some of the Pinks, Yellows, and Blues from the Kit.  And I wanted to use a fun little technique that I saw Diana Waite do and I tried to find the layout where she used it, but of course I couldn't remember where it was when I needed it!  But she created some cute little squares and then cut a triangle and placed it in a pattern over the squares.  I used the technique as a little border under my photo. One of my favorites in this kit, is the pack of Maya Road stamps.  They have tiny words and heart shapes, and I used them to stamp the word "love" multiple times and to add some of the tiny hearts to my page.

CS Sketch #247 & Birthday Blog Hop WINNER!

Just a quick post, to share my layout based on Creative Scrappers Sketch #247.  It's 12:45AM here, and we just made it in from the Endymion parade in New Orleans.  Two hour drive there and back for us, so it was a speedy trip and I am exhausted after wrangling the kiddies all day!!  :)

a fun layout for Get It Scrapped!, using the Painterly trend!  You may be wondering what Painterly entails.  It's basically creating a fun, artsy background for your layout or project.  You can take it to whatever extreme you like, by adding a little or a lot.  Here is what I did for this assignment:

Our little boy loves looking through the telescopes that overlook the water, and we have to make a stop at every one, along the pier.  The colors in these photos are more on the muted side and included a lot of Browns and Grays, so I thought the Painterly trend would be a great way to add some color and fun to this layout.  Instead of looking to paint, to create my background, I chose to work with Spray Mists.  I diluted two different colors, Teal and Yellow, with a little bit of water.  Then I chose a Chevron mask and dabbed the color over the mask, once I adhered, the patterned paper squares to my layout.  While the color was still wet, I shook the mist dropper over my page, to blend the colors and give it a water color effect.  Once that layer was dry, I took some bubble wrap and taped it to my acrylic stamp block, sprayed it with Orange spray mist, and then randomly stamped it on my page.  My Chevron pattern got a little lost, once I added the bubble wrap stamping, but I still love the Painterly look.  That's one of the great things about this trend...the messier the better!!

It All Adds Up!

When you think of Scrapbooking...Math may not be an immediate idea that comes to mind, but when you really think about it, we use a lot of Math when it comes to creating our layouts and projects.  How about measuring for titles and embellishments?...whether you are exact and use a ruler or just eye ball it.  Using the rule of thirds to create a page?  Using the pint, quart, gallon method for adding color to your layouts?  And what about adding, to determine the amount of products you will use on your layout?  Well today, at Love My Tapes, we are working with the equation 1+1=2.  You may ask, what in the world that means.  Well, here is my interpretation...1 roll of Washi Tape + 1 style of button = 2 fun Lolli embellishments!!

 
I used the Pink and Red dot Washi Tape to create my flower.  I just pleated the tape over a Glubber, starting from the outside edge and working towards the center.  It doesn't have to be perfect...the imperfections give it a little character.  I picked a Lime Green button to add a pop of color to the center of the Lolli.  Once I had the flower completed, I adhered a toothpick to the back side and then placed both of them on my layout.  And voila...two fun and easy Washi Tape embellishments to add interest to your layout.  Who knew Math could be so much fun??!!

Sara's Birthday Blog Hop

I am so excited to be a part of another Birthday Blog Hop!  Today, we are celebrating Sara Zenger's Birthday with a fun sketch, inspiration, and prizes!!  You should have arrived here from the very talented, Cassie Box's Blog!

We received an awesome sketch from Diana Fisher to use for the Hop!  I love that the sketch included a large photo and here's what I did with it:

 

I stayed fairly close to Diana's sketch.  I don't have the ability to print up to 12x12, so I printed my photo as wide as possible on my 8.5x11 printer.  Then I used a small piece of patterned paper to fill in the left over space.  And I thought adding my title to a tag that I cut on the Cameo, would make up for the shortness of the picture.  I will admit that most of my photos are Portrait, and I had to dig all the way back to our trip to the Pumpkin Patch this past Fall to find one that would work.  I could have used multiple photos, but I really wanted to go with the larger photo.

Wild Things

February is upon us and Leeanne has got some great Kits for us to work with this month, at Artful Delight.  If you've seen the Kit, you may not look at it and think, "Let me pull out some photos from the Zoo, to go with this Kit."  But, once I started digging through the papers and found the cool colors included on the Basic Grey sheets, it made me think Safari.  Since we haven't been on any Safari's lately...or ever...I decided grabbing a Zoo photo was the next best thing.  Most of the time, I do feel like I live with jungle animals, so using this pic of the kids at the Zoo worked out nicely!!  :)

I kind of just went a little crazy on this layout.  It was fun to put together.  I've been dying to use the feather trend, and they seemed to work on this layout, so I added two that I cut on the Cameo.  AND...I stamped!  There is a fun pack of little stamps from Maya Road in this Kit and I used the outlined triangle.  This page is based on our Sketch for February and you can come over and play along with us, for the chance to win some Artful Delight goodies.
