Hip Kit Club | Frozen Fun & Be Mine Card

This is my last post using the January 2014 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits!  I love that I was able to create so many different looks with this Kit!  So let's get right to my layout!!

I loved the diagonal pattern on the Crate Paper Teal wood grain paper in the January kit.  It gave me the idea to step out of my comfort zone, and design my photos and title on a diagonal.  Once my photos were in place, I added some strips of washi tape and patterned paper above and below them.  The color of the Cherish Thickers worked perfectly for the Frozen theme of my page.  I also used my CAMEO to cut a few snowflakes to add a frosty feel to my page.  Once my page was finished, I took some White acrylic paint and used my finger to smudge it around the photo and title area, to help blend some of the background color out.

The Crate Paper Stand Outs in the January Kit, make awesome embellishments.  I thought the Be Mine Stand Out would be perfect for the front of a card.  I gently removed the bottom layer of the Stand Out, so it only included the pleated piece and sentiment.  I added a die cut view master behind the Stand Out, which I cut from the Kraft cardstock included in the Kit.  And I thought it would be fun to finish it off, with one of the positive shaped hearts adhered to a tooth pick and tucked behind the Stand Out.

Silhouette | I Love You 365 Days of the Year

I am stopping in today, to share a new layout for Silhouette.  Over so many years of creating layouts, sometimes I get stuck for a good title for my pages.  When this happens, I love to visit the Silhouette Store and check out the Phrases category.  I always find just the perfect thing!!  As I was browsing the new shapes last week, I came across this phrase in the store, and knew that it would be perfect for an everyday photo of our son, that didn’t have a specific theme.

I started out my page, by cutting the phrase on my CAMEO, and once it was finished, I used scrap pieces of patterned papers behind each word.  Using the White cardstock for my background, gave the patterned papers a great pop behind the words!  I also wanted to incorporate my Sketch Pens on this page, so I opened a heart shape in Studio and changed it to 5 different sizes.  I ran it through the CAMEO, using the Gray Sketch Pen and then sent it through again, to cut the heart shapes out.  Then 

I just randomly scattered and adhered them to my page.

Get It Scrapped! | 2 the Moon & Back

Today, the Get It Scrapped! Team is sharing inspiration for using Constellation motifs on your layouts.  Stars and Constellation designs have been very popular and there are many different ways to incorporate this motif into your layouts.  I blended a mix of stars, constellation designs, and a planet cut file to create my page.

 
It's rare to get a photo of all three kids, smiling and looking at the camera, but this one was as close as it usually gets.  I thought it would be a great photo to use with a Constellation motif, and the title 2 the Moon & Back.  I wanted to carry the constellation look into my title for a big impact, so I used a large Ampersand cut file with a geometric pattern, that resembled a constellation pattern.

Surprise Baby Boy Card Hop for Jinny!

My Blog friend Jinny Newlin and family, recently welcomed a brand new baby boy, and some of us wanted to get together for a surprise Card Blog Hop to celebrate their new bundle of joy!  I created a simple card (for mailing purposes) using the Head Over Heels collection from Echo Park and the wood veneer alphas from Studio Calico.

Silhouette | A Whole Lotta Love

It’s been great playing with each of the new products that are coming soon from Silhouette and finding fun ways to use them on projects.  Today, I have a tutorial using the Stencil Material showing how you can use it to create your own stitching templates.  It’s amazing how many different ways you can use the same product!

I started out, by designing my layout in Silhouette Studio.

Once I had my design in place, I knew I wanted to take away the center hearts on the border, so I ungrouped and released the compound path.  Then I just deleted the center of each heart.  I wanted to cut the heart border with the Adhesive Washi Sheets, but I didn’t want it to be transparent on my layout.  So, I layered the Washi pattern over White cardstock and sent it through the CAMEO on the Textured Cardstock setting.

After the heart border was cut and ready, I cut the word Love on the Stencil Material, selecting the Stencil setting in Silhouette Studio.  When it finished cutting, I placed it on my layout, where I wanted to stitch the word Love.

When you have your Stencil Material in place, gently press it to keep it in place on your paper.  Then you can use a pencil to trace around the cut letters.

Now you can take a paper piercer and go along the penciled word to make your stitching holes.  Then just choose the color thread you would like to use and stitch along your letters.

Don’t you love the idea of creating your own individual stitching templates from shapes in the Silhouette Store??!!  And the great thing is, that they are reusable, and you can even use the Stencil for misting, painting or modeling paste!  The ideas are endless!!

Hip Kit Club | Sweet Smiles & Card

I'm back today, to share a new layout and card with the January Kit from Hip Kit Club!  I am really blown away by how much is in each of the kits and how well they mix together to create awesome projects!!  Up first is my layout, using a mix of Crate Paper and American Crafts.

I love to use geometric shapes on my layouts, so I thought it would be fun to add some large triangles behind my photo on this layout design.  I used my CAMEO to cut the triangle shapes from the Crate Paper and American Crafts papers included in the January Kit.  The triangles are cut to 2.75x3 inches.  Once I had the triangles in place, I added my photo, embellishments and title.  I also wanted to add just a touch of texture, so I stitched around the Teal triangles.

 
I decided to go for a more simple design on this card, and used the White cardstock from the kit, as my base.  I used my CAMEO to create a positive and negative effect with the heart shapes, and also used it to cut the word Hello for part of my sentiment.  The Studio Calico Wood Veneer alphas in the January Kit are perfect for cards, because they are so light weight and small.  They worked perfectly to complete the sentiment on my card.

Get It Scrapped! | I Am Iron Man

Yesterday, Get It Scrapped! shared a new article, 6 Creative Techniques for Scrapbooking with Plaid Patterned Paper.  Plaid is big in fashion, as well as scrapbooking, and I am sure you have some Plaid patterns in your scrapbook supplies!  Here is the layout I created, mixing two different Plaid patterns, with a diamond shaped cut file.

 
One of our son's Christmas presents from the grandparents, was an Iron Man mask, which he immediately loved!  Instead of taking a superhero route with the look on this page, I thought I would use the Plaid patterns to create a masculine look.  I wanted to pair my plaid patterns with a popular shape or cut file, so I found a diamond pattern in the Silhouette store and cut it out of the Plaid patterned paper.  I also wanted to work with a contrasting Plaid, so I chose a different Plaid pattern and used it to cut smaller diamond shapes, that I placed in the center of the larger shapes.  I chose my second contrasting pattern, by picking a patterned paper that had a different size Plaid, but it worked well, because the Teal color carried over into both of my Plaid patterns.
