Crate Paper | Capture Today

The Crate Paper Gather collection by Maggie Holmes, is still one of my favorites for fall layouts.  The calendar says it's fall here, but our temperatures do not!  But I don't let that stop me from documenting my favorite season!

You can never go wrong with a wood grain paper for your background.  It gives you a great pattern and color, but it's subtle enough not to overwhelm the rest of your layout.  I had to have leaves, since the theme of my layout was fall, so I used a cut file from The Cut Shoppe Etsy store.  Then, I backed the leaves with three different papers from the Gather collection.

For the design of the layout, I used the leaves on the cut file to create a visual triangle.  I placed my title at the top, an embellishment cluster to the center right and my photo at the bottom.  I added interest to each area with a variety of embellishments from the collection.

Whatever season it feels like where you are, you can always document your favorite with all of the Crate Paper collections, from Christmas to Halloween or special occasion to everyday!

I don't think I will ever get tired of using the beautiful Crate Paper Gather collection by Maggie Holmes!  I wanted to squeeze in one more layout, with the collection for November, and I had the perfect photo from our recent Thanksgiving trip to Texas.

The Joyful patterned paper included in the collection is one of my favorites!  I've been waiting for the perfect inspiration to use it, and inspiration finally struck.  I decided to use the paper for my full background, but tone it down a bit with some hand cut leaves from a few of the Black & White patterned papers.  I used the leaves from the Gather Ephemera pack as a stencil to trace on the Black & White 6x6 papers and then hand cut them with my small scissors.  I placed the leaves in a scattered pattern on the background and then machine stitched each one of them.

I put together a quick title for my layout using the Chipboard stickers and the Accent stickers.  I almost always like to have my title layered over the photo or very close to the photo.  I think it makes the two most important elements on your layout, stand out.  The colors from the background paper and the hand cut leaves created a busy look on the layout, so I wanted to keep my embellishing on the simple side.  I placed a few of the phrase stickers from the Accent stickers sheet over some of the leaves, and included a heart sticker with each one too.

This layout was quick and easy to put together, and I loved creating the hand cut leaves by tracing the leaves from the Ephemera pack.  It's an easy way to reproduce a favorite shape from a collection, and a great way to customize it with the patterned papers you decide to use.  I am all for an endless pile of cute, hand cut leaves!

I can't use the Crate Paper Gather collection by Maggie Holmes, enough!  It's so beautiful and perfect for feminine layouts.  I started this layout by looking through the 12x12 patterned papers for some inspiration.  The Happy Place paper caught my eye, and inspired me to do a fun title design.

I really liked the calendar look of the background paper, so I printed my photo to fit in the last two columns on the page.  Then I had the idea to flip the words for my title in a vertical design, to span the other daily columns on the background paper.  I used a mix of the Blessed Chipboard Phrase stickers, Together Thickers and die cut words to create the long title.

You might notice something a little unusual on this layout...for me, anyway...there is a minimal amount of embellishing!  I really liked the clean look of the layout, once I had the photo and title in place, so I decided to go with less embellishing than I normally use.  The beautiful leaves from the Gather Ephemera pack were perfect for balancing the large title.  Then I used a couple of the leaf stickers from the Accent Stickers pack, with a wood button to create a small cluster on the opposite side of the layout.

   
This was a fun design, and I liked that it was a bit different than what I normally do.  Don't be afraid to try out new design styles, especially if you are in a creative rut.  Trying something new can kick start your creativity, or help you find new ways to use your supplies!

Crate Paper | Gift Wrap

This past week, the Crate Paper Design Team shared fun ideas for customizing Gift Wrap.  I "wrapped" up the week with a cute Gift Bag and Tag, using the Gather collection from Maggie Holmes.  Making your own Gift Wrap adds a personal touch to a gift, and it can be easier to whip up your own instead of making a special trip to the store.

I used some of the pretty patterned papers and embellishments from the Gather collection, for my gift wrap.  Using a collection you have on hand is a great way to customize your gift wrap.  The Gather collection or Cute Girl collection is perfect for female themed gift wrap or you could use the Cool Kid collection for male themed gift wrap.

The 12x12 papers in the Gather collection can be used to wrap small packages, or you can create a gift bag like I did, using a cut file from the Silhouette Store.  Once the design for my bag was cut, I used some of the Gather Stickers and Ephemera pieces to decorate the front of the bag.  I machine stitched along the center of the two leaves from the Ephemera pack, before adding them to the bag.

I also thought it would be fun to create a tag to go along with the gift bag.  The Gather Ephemera pack includes so many fun pieces and there are several tags.  You could also cut your own tag, if you need a certain size, that’s not available in the Ephemera pack.  I layered some of the other Ephemera pieces over the tag, and thought it would also be fun to add a bit of fringe to the tag.  I cut one of the patterned papers from the 6x6 paper pad to fit behind the tag, then I cut it with a pair of fringe scissors to create the texture.

I love that there are so many possibilities for personalizing your gift wrap, with the Crate Paper collections you have on hand.  And if you’re creating a customized gift wrap for a fellow scrapbooker, I’m sure they would love to incorporate products from the gift wrap into their own projects, once the gift has been given!

I'm stopping in today to share a new layout for Crate Paper, using the gorgeous Gather collection by Maggie Holmes!  I love the colors and patterns in this collection, so I decided to use as many papers as I could on my layout.  I chose eight papers from the 6x6 paper pad to use with a string art cut file.

 
I wanted to add some texture to the cut files so I machine stitched around each one.  I also used the positive pieces of the heart shapes to fill in more of the background.  I used the largest cut file to place my photo.  I liked having the photo in a heart shape, so the space worked perfectly.

At this point, you're probably thinking I had plenty of hearts on the layout, but I found room for more!  I used a mix of hearts from the Gather Chipboard Sheet and Thickers sheet, to add dimension to the layout.

For the title, I also used pieces from the Gather Thickers.  I liked having the thicker look of the chipboard, to help it stand out against the background design.  I finished up the layout with the cute little bow and wood buttons from the Gather Embellishment pack.  If you haven't seen the full collection, make sure you head over to the Crate Paper Blog to check it out.  There's an awesome variety of products included in the collection!
