Get It Scrapped! | 5070

Yesterday, the Creative Team at Get It Scrapped! shared scrapbooking ideas for telling a story with numbers.  There are a variety of ways you can incorporate numbers into your layouts...products with numbers, dates, ages, addresses, and more.  I chose the last one, an address, as the focus of my layout.

Several years after my grandfather passed away, my grandmother was moved to an assisted living facility and their home where I spent most of my time up until young adult hood, now sits empty.  On my last visit to pick up some things from the house I snapped a photo of the outside, and knew I wanted to use the address as the title of my layout.  I chose a patterned paper, with random numbers, and made the address title of the page bolder, by cutting the letters in a dark wood grain paper.  I also made the numbers rather large and added stitching around the edges for more emphasis.  I also made sure to capture the house address in my photo.

Silhouette | 2013 in Review

We are a over a week into 2014!  Hope you're having a great year so far!  Since 2013 isn't too far behind us, I am stopping in today, to share a 2013 Year in Review layout for Silhouette.  I knew I wanted to create a 2013 Year in Review layout, but I was stumped on my design.  As soon as I saw last week's Free Calendar Shape in the Silhouette Store, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  I was able to open the calendar in Silhouette Studio, resize them, and print them out to use on my layout.

I sized the Calendars to 3.5 x 2.5 in Silhouette Studio and then printed them out on two separate pages.  Once the calendars were cut, I adhered them to my background paper.  I sized my photos to 2 x 2 to fit over the days of the week on each of the Calendar pieces.  And I finished off my page by adding a few tags from Elle's Studio and some wood veneers from Studio Calico.

Chic Tags Sketch It Out | In Focus

Yesterday, our first Sketch challenge for the new year went up on the Chic Tags Blog!  If you love using circles in your page designs, then this sketch is just for you!  And if you haven't tried circles, then here's your chance to try a new design element on your pages.

I love having the small circles in the background, because it gives you a great opportunity for embellishing!  I mixed two of the Chic Tags patterned papers behind my circles and then embellished them with some tags from the Happy Place collection, stamps, wood veneers, and enamel dots.  I changed up the photo area and used two photos instead of three, but you could stick with the three spots or even do just one large photo across the photo area.

Creative Scrappers Sketch 259 | It's the Most Wondeful Time of the Year

Get It Scrapped! | Pastels + Flourescents

I always love the trends that Debbie finds, to share in the Get It Scrapped! articles.  The newest is Pastels + Flourescents.  I thought this would be tough and that I would have to do some searching to put these colors together, but after a review of what's in my stash, the Polka Dot Party collection from Dear Lizzy came to mind.  It has a great mix of soft Pinks and Blues with pops of Flourescent Yellow and Pink.

 
Our daughter loves to wear her Cowgirl hat, and will wear it just about any place we go.  Even though I loved the photo for this page, the colors in the picture did not work with the color scheme I chose, so I changed my photo to black and white.  I love the contrast of the softer colors with the pop of bright Yellow.  And I used the bright Flourescent frame around my b&w photo to draw your eye to the picture, but used a larger amount of the softer Pinks and Blues on my page.

And since the design of my layout, gave me a large amount of White space, I thought it would be a fun idea to fill it in with some confetti.  I punched two different sized circles from the PDP patterned paper and mixed in some sequins to create the confetti look on my page.

Christmas Cheer

I usually try to reign in my spending during Christmas time, since we are buying gifts for family, but every once in a while, something catches my eye and I just can't pass it up!  The Glitz Design Hello December collection had been calling my name for a while, but I put up a good fight...until, I saw that there was a sale at Two Peas!!  So I just thought I would take a peek and check on the Hello December collection.  Well, they had the collection pack on sale for less than $12 and I just COULDN'T pass that up!!  I decided it would be a little Christmas gift to myself!!  :)  It arrived last week and I just had to start creating with it.  I used it on a just for fun layout today, with some photos of our little guy posing in front of the big Christmas tree at our local shopping mall.

 

There is an awesome sticker sheet included with this collection, and I knew I wanted to use them in a prominent way on my page.  I placed my photos first and then cut an 8 inch circle on my CAMEO.  I traced the circle onto my background paper and then I went to work placing the stickers around the circle shape.  I mixed in some of the letter stickers for my title, wood veneers, cut files and rhinestones to add some variation to the design.  And I felt like the layout needed some stitching for extra texture, so I cut a smaller circle shape, traced it and then stitched around it.

So be on the lookout for more layouts using this collection...it is giving me serious hoarding tendencies...but I am trying to overcome!  :)

Chic Tags | Goals

Happy New Year!!  Let's kick it off, with the new monthly Challenge Sunday at Chic Tags.  I created a layout for the challenge, using a design element, I've never tried before...a photo-less layout!  I will admit, that it was a little strange creating a page with no photo, but let me say, that it was a fast page to put together!!

  
I thought this would be a great goal for 2014, because I still struggle with getting good photographs.  Sometimes I think I am just cursed with crappy cameras, but then I decide, that it's probably mostly user error and I just have no idea what I'm doing!  HA!  I am not big on reading instructions.  I'm more of a trial and error kind of girl.  But I do like the YouTube tutorials.  Those are usually a lot more helpful for me, compared to reading an English instruction manual, which ends up just looking like a foreign language to me!

Since I didn't use a photo on this layout, I thought it would be a fun idea to create a camera image using some of the Chic Tags, so I layered several tags from the Happy Place collection to get the look of a camera.  I also wanted to use a large Polaroid frame, so I cut this one of my CAMEO, and used a full sheet of the Happy Place rub-ons in the background of the Polaroid.

Do you have any goals or resolutions for the coming year?  It's always fun to set goals, and even though we may not accomplish them, we definitely learn new and interesting things along the way!
