Project Paper Bakery

Happy weekend everyone!  I am here to share what I've been doing with the Project Kit for the month of August!  This month's Kit has an amazing 6x9 album from Pink Paislee, along with some papers from the Pink Paislee Portfolio collection and papers and a Miscellany pack from the October Afternoon Travel Girl collection.  This album could be used with any photos, but I chose to use mine for photos of our last visit to Disney World.  Here's a look at what I did with the front cover of the album:

The color of the front of the album is a solid kraft color and there is a raised Chevron pattern on the cover.  I wanted to make the pattern stand out, so I sprayed some Mustard Color Shine on a paper towel and rubbed the color over the Chevron pattern to get the effect I wanted.  Then I layered some of the pieces from the OA Miscellany pack and used the fun wood grain Thickers for the title of my album.

The page protectors have several different sizes, including:  4x3, 4x6, 2x3, and 3x3.  If you enjoy Pocket Scrapbooking, then I am sure you are familiar with this format in the album.  I have to admit, that I find this format a little intimidating, but this album was really easy to use and you can make it as simple or as advanced as you would like.  I decided to keep my spreads a little more on the simple side, since this is a format that I don't use a lot.

It was fun adding in all of the different patterned papers and embellishments with my photos, and I still have a ton of page protectors to finish out the photos from the rest of our trip!  And one more thing I really love about the album, is the page dividers that are included.  These are great for extra journaling or adding and storing memorabilia.

I used the page divider to add several pieces from our trip.  I love that Driver's License Card, because our now 7 year old wrote her name on there all by herself, when she was 5.  Such a great piece of memorabilia to add to my album!

Clear Scraps | You're a Card

I'm back to share two cards with you, for this month's Guest Designer spot at Clear Scraps.  I only recently started making cards earlier this year, but once I got started, I found that I really enjoyed it.  And card making is a great way to use scrap pieces from your other projects, when you just can't bring yourself to get rid of those left over pieces of paper.

My first card uses one of the pieces I cut from one of the Bo Bunny papers for my sentiment...Sun Your Buns.  I also cut some of the Chevron pieces from the full 12x12 sheet, and adhered them to the background of my card.  I finished this one off by stitching around the sentiment and adding one of the Yellow flowers from the Kit, with a button center.

 
For the second card, I used the cute Sun image from the Bo Bunny papers, with the sentiment, You Are My Sunshine.  I layered an embossed piece of patterned paper behind the Sun image and then I used some sequins from my stash to add a fun touch to the rays of the Sun.  I finished it off, by tying some baker's twine around the card and adding one of those cute starfish to the center of the twine.

So whether you are an experienced card maker or you are just starting out, I hope you will find fun ways to incorporate your scrap pieces into your next card!  And look for those little embellishments that add just the right touch!

Family Fun

I wasn't sure if I would get a chance to play along with the Elle's Studio Sketch Thursday Challenge, but I got to sit down for a little while yesterday afternoon and work on this layout.  I loved the design of the sketch, with the fun Polaroid frames, and I had several of these in my stash that were included in the June and July Limited Edition Elle's Studio Kits and a pack from the Cameron collection.  And the sketch had great multi-photo capability, which worked out perfectly for these photos from our recent day trip to the beach.

This page ended up being quick and easy, because I followed the Sketch closely and focused more on layering a lot of the Elle's Tags, rather than adding a lot of other embellishments.  The only extra embellishments I added to the page, are the Thickers, SC Atlantic sequins, and Two Peas paper clip arrows.  I usually go into overload mode on my embellishments, but I thought the layers added just the right touch to this layout, without having to add anything else to it.

Channeling My Inner Wilna

The CT Team at Get It Scrapped!, is sharing some fun inspiration today, using the Watercolor technique!  I will admit that I LOVE this look, but I don't do it often, because it is a paper crumpler and crumpled paper does not do good things for me.  But I have received some great tips for helping to flatten your paper, when you use this technique and I will share them with you, at the end of the post.

I am by no means a Wilna Furstenberg, who does such pretty things with Watercolor, but it is a technique that I would like to continue to perfect...or as close to perfect as I can get it.

  
We love spending time outside during the Summer, and one of the kids favorite things to do is blowing bubbles.  I am a beginner with Watercolor techniques, so I thought I would try a more simple approach in "getting my feet wet" with this technique.  I diluted a small drop of Mister Huey's Spray Mist in water and used a medium sized soft bristle paint brush to brush the color across my background paper.  While the color was still damp, I used some bottle caps from products in my scrap space and stamped some circle shapes using the mist as my ink.  Since the initial painted color was still damp, this helped give my stamped circles a more blended and softer look.  For a final layer, I added some mist drops to my layout by removing the nozzle from the mist bottle and dropping dots of color over the page.  I love that this look reflected the theme of my photo.

And I also wanted to offer some of the tips I've received, to help flatten your layout and make it easier for photographing your page, when using Watercolors, mists, or other wet mediums.

From Kelly Foster:

1.  Use heavy items, such as large books and lay them over your paper for a period of time to flatten it out.

2.  Tape your finished layout to a much heavier/thicker piece of cardstock.

From Yvonne Yam:

1.  Use mist on the backside of your page to help even out the warping, caused by just having some sprayed on the front side.

Both of these Ladies are experts with Mixed Media and a variety of Mediums, and I have tried all three tips and they have worked great!

Clear Scraps Guest Designer

Pinky Hobbs contacted me recently and asked if I would like to Guest Design for Clear Scraps, and I was excited about the opportunity!  I received a fun Kit, containing the Chipboard Shape Sandcastle mini album, the Bo Bunny Key Lime collection, Mudd Puddles, and several other cute embellishments.

Today, I am sharing the mini I created using the Sandcastle shaped album.

I started off my album by covering all of the front sides.  I used a mixture of modeling paste and Spray Mist to acheive the Yellow color.  After I applied the modeling paste, I sprinkled in a touch of glitter and lightly sprayed an Orange mist over the piece.

I continued the modeling paste over each of the front sides of the album and then used some of the Bo Bunny papers to cover the back sides of each chip board piece.  I wanted the album to have some variety, so I adhered the paper to the chipboard and then used a craft knife to cut away the excess pieces.

Once I had all of the sides of the album covered, I began decorating with all of the different embellishments.  I used the cute Star Fish and flowers that came with the kit and fussy cut several pieces from the Bo Bunny papers.  I also played with some of the Mudd Puddles, which is so fun!!  It is as close to real sand as you can get and dries quickly.  I was also able to mix in a few bits and pieces from my stash, to get each page just the way I wanted it.  Some extras include, Custom Flair Buttons from The Paper Bakery, wood veneers and sequins from Studio Calico and wood veneers from Freckled Fawn.

Goodbye July, Hello August!

Today I am sharing a couple of projects from the July Scrapbook Kit, Boardwalk and the new August Scrapbook Kit, on the Paper Bakery Blog.  First up, a Card and Tag from the Boardwalk Kit.

For the Card and Tag, I used some of the fun Vellum shapes included in the Studio Calico package with the July Kit.  And I love those dark grain wood veneers that are also from the Studio Calico, Atlantic collection, and they made perfect embellishments for both projects.

I had so much fun creating with the July Kit, and I can't believe we are already starting to share projects using the August Kit.  This month's Kit has some of the amazing papers from the Hello Again collection from Carta Bella, OA Travel Girl embellishments, wood veneer hearts, sequin hearts, Custom Flair and Printables.  I incorporated a little bit of all of these on my first layout, using the Kit.

 
The background paper is from the My Girl collection by American Crafts, and I love how the papers from the Hello Again collection paired so well with it.  I cut the heart background using a cut file from the Silhouette store, and added in a couple of the wood veneer hearts over the negative pieces.  The flower embellishment was also cut using the Cameo and I layered 3 of the flowers together to give it some dimension and finished off the center with a button.
