It's time for a new Sketch and Design Team reveal at Creative Scrappers!  Today's Sketch was created by Jenny Evans and has a fun Triangle pattern in the background!

I wanted to add some interest to the Triangles on my page, so I stitched around each one.  And for three of the Triangles, I added some vellum pockets filled with confetti!

American Crafts | Silhouette Week

This past week, American Crafts shared layouts and projects using the Silhouette!  I was happy to create a layout and card, because it combined two of my favorite scrappy things...American Crafts products and my CAMEO!  I used the Cut & Paste collection from Amy Tangerine for my layout and mixed it with some cut files from the Silhouette Store and Silhouette Adhesive Backed Cardstock.

I used the Polka Dot Party collection from Dear Lizzy and mixed it with the amazing Double Sided Adhesive from Silhouette.  The Double Sided Adhesive is perfect with the Silhouette Glitter, to add some sparkle to your project!!

Get It Scrapped! | Stripes

Today, I am stopping by to share a layout in a new Get It Scrapped! article:  Using Stripes to Convey a Mood or Theme.  When you initially think of stripes, you may not think there is a mood or theme to use for a striped pattern.  But what about a multi-colored striped paper for a happy theme, or b&w stripes to create an elegant look on your layout?  When you start to look at the different color combinations and varying sizes of stripes, I think a lot of ideas will pop up!  Here is the layout I created, using different color and different size stripes.

On my husband's birthday, we went out for a family day, and "attempted" to take a family selfie photo.  With five of us, this was the best we could do, but I definitely still wanted to use it on a layout.  After looking over some striped patterns, I decided on a thin striped paper with light Blue and darker Blue stripes.  The stripes made me think of a Nautical theme, based on the width and color of the stripes, which worked with our photo since we were sitting at a Marina.  I used the striped pattern behind our family photo and as a border strip along the bottom of my layout. After deciding on the theme, based on the striped pattern, I pulled several other patterned papers and embellishments that would support the Nautical theme of my page.

Silhouette | 10 Things I Love About You

If you were able to attend CHA this past week or kept up with all of the action online, I'm sure you got a look at some of the awesome new products that Silhouette has coming up!  Washi Sheets, Vellum, Corrugated Paper and Stencil material will all be available soon!  I got a chance to work with the Washi Sheets and they are A-MAZ-ING!  I wanted to stop in today and share the layout I created, using two patterns from the Washi Sheets.

The Washi cuts so easily and adheres very smoothly and there are no curl ups on the edges of your cuts. I thought it would be fun to cut the Talk Bubble shapes on the Washi Sheets and customize them by typing in some words, to describe some of the things I love about our daughter.  The Speech Bubble file I used, was already filled with different words, so I just ungrouped each one and removed the words, so I could add in my own.  I rotated the patterns and once the Talk Bubbles were adhered to my layout, I used a ruler to draw lines from the circle and then hand stitched each one of them.

There are so many endless possibilities to using the Washi Sheets!  You will definitely want to add all of the new products to your wish list!  And be on the lookout for the new product.  It’s not available just yet, but will be COMING SOON!

Studio Calico 2014 Crop

This past weekend, Studio Calico held a fun Crop with lots of great challenges.  It was a fun time to get scrappy, for those of us who weren't able to make it out to CHA.  I was able to play along with four of the challenges...so far...and I'm hoping to maybe squeeze one more in sometime today or tomorrow.  But I thought I would pop in today and share the layouts I completed over the weekend.

Challenge #1:  Create something inspired by a Project in your Inspiration Book.

There are a TON of inspirational layouts in the Studio Calico gallery and I have some awesome ones in my inspiration book.  I chose a layout by gluestickgirl (aka Lisa Truesdell) as inspiration for my layout.  You can see Lisa's original page HERE.  I loved the fun border she created around her layout and I was also inspired to use a large title on my page and try the 8.5x11 format.

Challenge #5:  Layer it up!  Lexi Bridges hosted this challenge, to use layers on your projects to add interest.  I used one of my Origrami IG photos along with the 1/9/14 Sketch Thursday challenge from Elle's Studio to create my layout.

 
I stayed fairly close to the sketch and added a lot of layers behind my photo, and even used some of the packaging from the June Limited Edition Kit from Elle's Studio.  I've been hoarding those Studio Calico triangle veneers for a good while, and I thought they would be perfect to use on this layout.

Challenge #7 and Challenge #8:  For this layout, I combined two of the challenges.  Challenge #7 was a sketch based on a layout by Natalie Elphinstone, and Challenge #8 was hosted by Paige Evans, to use a Digital Item on your layout.  I changed up the sketch by using an 8.5x11 format and I used some of the cut files from the Copper Mountain Kit, Hello Cuts by Hello Forever.

 

And if you're having trouble seeing that photo of our son, let me just tell you, that he has Little Debbie snack cake boxes on his feet/legs.  Yep, I came back into the living room and found him standing like that in the hallway drinking his Capri Sun!  The boxes were on the counter, to go out in the Recycle Bins, but I guess he thought they would make some great boots!

Silhouette | Last Lunch of 2013

Today, I am stopping in to share a layout that went up on the Silhouette Blog yesterday.  I wanted to give the Stamping Starter Kit a try, on a layout, using a photo from our last lunch of 2013.  We decided to get out for lunch and go to one of our favorite restaurants.  I snapped an Instagram photo of our oldest daughter eating her hot dog, which is one of her favorites!  I thought it would be perfect to use on this layout, using the Stamp Starter Kit.

You may have the Stamping Starter Kit and just haven’t had a chance to use it yet, or are considering buying it.  Well, let me tell you, that it is easy peasy to use!  I’ve got a tutorial to share on how I set up my shapes to cut on the stamping material.

1.  I chose the Album Card Overlays to cut on my stamping material.  Remember, when you are cutting images to stamp, that you might need to horizontally rotate your image to have it appear correctly after it is stamped.  I did not rotate my talk bubble card, because I wanted the point of the talk bubble to stamp on the left hand side.

2.  You can customize your shapes, before cutting, by adding words or other images to your original shape.  I added the word Yum to the talk bubble card.

3.  I didn’t want the talk bubble card to be rotated, but I did need to horizontally rotate the word, to keep it from stamping backwards.  You can do this by selecting your word, going to Object, Transform and then selecting Flip Horizontally.

4.  Once you Flip Horizontally, your word will look like this before cutting.

5.  Now you can prepare to cut your images on the stamping material.  Remove the cover from your mat, included in the Stamping Kit.  Then you can place one of the sheets of stamping material over your mat.  Make sure to press down on your stamping material, to make sure there are no bubbles.  DO NOT stretch or pull your stamping material, as it will mess up the shape of your cut stamp.  When you load your mat into the CAMEO, you can move the guide over to hold your mat in place since it is smaller than the 12 x 12 mat, before cutting and then move it back, once you are done.  Now that your mat is loaded, choose Send to Silhouette, and select Stamping Material from the Cut Settings.  Don’t forget to change your Blade Setting to 9.

Now you have your own custom stamp!  Just add it to the stamping block included with the kit and cover with your favorite ink color!

American Crafts January Gallery | 1st Earrings

Our middle daughter's birthday is December 26...yep the day after Christmas.  We've always struggled with getting a birthday party together for her, with all of the Christmas activities going on during the month, and all of the money flying out of the bank account for Christmas gifts!!  :)  So we decided several years ago, that it works out best, to let her have a day to herself on the 26th, which usually includes some kind of activity and getting to choose where she would like to eat.  This year, since she turned the big 6, she said she wanted to get her ears pierced...so that's what we did!  And she did great.  Not even a flinch or tear.  I had to get her photo and of course document her momentous occasion!  I used the Polka Dot Party collection from Dear Lizzy, and thought it would be fun to do something a little different with one of the journaling card papers.

 
Most of the time, when I pull one of the journaling card papers from my stash, it's with the intentions to cut a certain section out and use it on my page.  But when I saw the Warm Welcome paper, I thought, why not use the full page as the background for my layout.  It gives you a great base for a grid design.  I placed my photo in the center at the top of the page and then embellished with my title, wood veneers, and journaling.  The wood veneers are fun to add to your layouts in the natural color or you can change the color by spraying them with mist, painting over them or even adding glitter.  I fussy cut the Garland paper and added the pieces to the wood grain space on the background paper to give it a fun girly feel and finished off my layout by stitching around the butterfly image and adding a few stitches to the Love wood veneer.
