The Rubber Cafe Guest Designer

Earlier this month, I shared that I would be the March Guest Designer for The Rubber Cafe!  My first post was up on TRC Blog yesterday, and I wanted to stop in and share my projects with you here!  I used the Creative Kit of the Month, Spring Is Here, to create my cards.

On my first card, I worked with the Egg-stra Special stamp set from the Kit and a added a little bit of mixed media.

I cut a piece of White cardstock and added it to the Yellow cardstock, that I cut for my card base.  Then I used some Gelatos to create a cloud effect on the White cardstock.  I wanted to have two colors put together for my stamped image, so I adhered two pieces from the Echo Park 6x6 paper pad together, and then stamped the cute birdie image and cut it out.  Before placing the stamped image on the card, I used some of the Green ribbon across the card and then layered the stamped image over it, using some pop dots for dimension.  Before stamping the "We Go Together Like The Birds and the Bees" sentiment, I added a little more color to the card using some watercolors.
I took a more clean and simple approach to my second card, using the Wishing You Will stamp set.

I cut the Boot stamp apart and stamped each set of boots in a different color ink, on a Kraft card base.  I used a Black ink pad to stamp the "Nobody Can Fill Your Boots Like You Do" sentiment three times, to go along with each set of boots.  To finish the card, I punched circles from three different patterned papers from the Echo Park 6x6 paper pad, cut the circles in half, and then placed the different patterns back together on the card.  And for the smaller circles, I used just a regular hole punch and punched circles from the same patterned papers.

Simple Stories | Shape It Up

Last Friday, I was up on the Simple Stories Blog with two new layouts, and I wanted to pop in and share them with you today.  I love using my Silhouette Cameo and die cuts to create fun, unique looks on my layouts.  And every once in a while, I like to do something a little different and use popular shapes to create shaped photos on my layouts!  For my first layout, I used one of the Simple Stories talk bubble shapes.  Did you know, that Simple Stories has lots of fun shapes in the Silhouette store?  Well they do, so make sure you stop by and check them out!

I used the Wood Grain paper from the Life Documented collection as the background for this layout.  Then I ran it through my Cameo and cut three large talk bubble shapes.  After they were cut, I backed each talk bubble shape with my photos.

Since the large talk bubbles were a negative cut, I also wanted to add some smaller positive talk bubbles.  I cut these from four different patterned papers from the Life Documented collection and added pop dots under each one to add some dimension to my layout.

And I also played around with mixing product on this layout.  Most of it is from the Life Documented collection, but I also mixed in wood veneers from the Say Cheese II Collection and some items from the Epic SN@P Pack.

On my second layout, I wanted to use a Triangle design.  I used a basic Triangle shape and created several different sizes, and randomly arranged them in Silhouette Studio.  Once the Triangles were cut, I backed them with different patterned papers from the I Am 6x6 paper pad.

Because I was using a square Instagram photo, my printed photo didn't fill in the large Triangle where I wanted to place it.  So I added the photo first behind the Triangle shape, and then used the Yellow diagonal striped paper from the 6x6 paper pad behind the photo to cover the rest of the Triangle.

I wanted to embellish my layout, but not cover all of the patterned papers behind the Triangles, so I chose a few of them to embellish with Stickers, Bits & Pieces, Bradz, and Enamel Dots.

Live Laugh Love

We are already up to Lesson 4 in the Studio Calico Color Theory class, taught by Wilna Furstenberg!  I am up to date with Lesson 3 and wanted to share it with you today.  In this lesson, we worked with Warm Colors, which is right up my alley because they are some of my favorite colors to work with!

 

Yeah, see what I mean...Fall colors all mixed on one layout together = my favorite!  I also used some of the cut files that Wilna created for the class, to embellish my page.  She challenged us to use the Print & Cut feature on our Cameo, and that's how I created the title for my page.  I really love the Print & Cut feature, but honestly I'm usually just too lazy to do it!  HA!  I've got to play around with it more.

Hip Kit Club | Card Duo

Due to some weather delays, the post office had a little trouble getting my March Hip Kit from Hip Kit Club to me, in time to create a layout with the new kit.  But never fear, I still had plenty of goodies in my February 2015 Hip Kit, and used some left over bits and pieces to create a card duo!

The cardstock sheets from the February Cardstock Add-On, are perfect for creating a base for your cards.  I used one of the kraft pieces for this card, and used a mix of My Mind’s Eye products and Evalicious products.  The MME rub-on worked perfectly over the cardstock, to create part of the sentiment for my card.

You can create unique background looks for your cards using the Heidi Swapp Washi Tape included in the February 2015 Embellishment Kit.  I tore several strips from one of the rolls and layered it over one of the patterned papers from the We R Memory Keepers 6×6 Paper Pad, that came in the Embellishment Kit, too!

So if you’re like me, and just can’t throw away those little paper scraps, try whipping up some quick cards, once you reach the end of your kit!

American Crafts | Lucky to Have You By My Side

St. Patrick's Day is coming up soon, and this week the American Crafts Design Team is sharing "Lucky" themed projects!  I had a layout up on the Blog yesterday, and wanted to pop in and share it with you today.  You can add a touch of St. Paddy's Day to your layouts, even if you aren't creating a St. Patrick Day's themed layout.  Use watercolors to add shades of Green and Aqua to clover shaped die cuts and your background paper, to "Go Green" this month!

How To:  Begin by adding Green watercolor paint to the Chloe background patterned paper.  Let dry before adding your photo and embellishments.  Fussy cut several circles from the Samantha and Sophia papers.  Add your photo to the right hand side of your layout, and layer some of the fussy cut circles behind it.  Die cut clovers from White cardstock and then add Green and Aqua watercolors.  Use a mix of Thickers to add a large title to the center of your layout.  Finish embellishing your layout with the watercolored clovers, Chipboard Frame, and Epoxy Stickers.

Be You

I'm back today to share another layout for the Color Theory class at Studio Calico, taught by Wilna Furstenberg!  The techniques in the class are so fun, and I'm looking forward to all of the upcoming lessons.  Today's layout, used the painting technique of pairing complementary colors.  I decided to use Blue and Orange, to create a masculine layout.

I started my background, using the Color Theory Deja Blue Acrylic paint.  I kept the darkest color at the top of my layout and then I kept mixing in White Acrylic paint for each new line of color, as I added it down the page.  Since I wanted a lot of the painted background to be visible, I decided to use a vertical design down the center of the layout.  All of my embellishments are various shades of Orange, and I cut the "Be You" title from White cardstock and then used Orange Acrylic paint to alter it.

I'll be back soon with another layout for the class, once the next lesson goes up!  It's fun to play around and be creative, just for the sake of creativity!!
