Crate Paper | Valentine's Decor

Hello!  I'm stopping in to share some Crate Paper Heart Day home decor with you!  Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and if you’re looking for a last-minute idea, for a cute addition to your Valentine’s Day décor, then this is it! Local craft stores always carry items that can be altered and I picked up this cute wooden house from Target. I love the different sections it has, and they are perfect for embellishing with the Heart Day collection!

I started with a plain white sheet of copy paper, and placed it over the bottom right section of the wooden house. I could see the outline of the open spot, so I placed a small mark with my pencil on the paper. Next I used my ruler to draw the lines and cut along them with my scissors. Then I layered it over the patterned paper I wanted to use, and it worked as a guide for cutting the perfect shape to fit inside the section. I added a bit of adhesive to the back of my paper and then placed it in the coordinating section. I repeated this process, until I had each section filled with a different patterned paper.

Next up, came the embellishing! I used a mix of embellishments from the Heart Day collection to decorate the wooden house. I placed the large chipboard love banner and the fringe heart on the outside of the house, to create dimension and play up the 3D effect of the wooden house. Then I grabbed a few embellishments from the Ephemera Pack and the Chipboard sheet to add to several of the sections. I also included some phrase stickers from the collection to emphasize the Valentine’s theme of the home décor piece.

This is such an easy project, and definitely a cute addition to any Valentine’s Décor. You can easily mix and match the Heart Day collection to create your own unique look!

Pink Paislee | Washi Photo Board

Trends come and go, but washi tape is here to stay!  It’s just such a fun product… totally cute with all of the different patterns and very versatile in its uses. I love the washi sheets that come with the Moonstruck collection. They are perfect for layouts and cards, but you can also use the sheets for other projects as well. I have a washi photo board to share with you today, and a tutorial to go along with my project!

Step 1: Gather the supplies you’ll need. I picked up an inexpensive plank board at my local craft store. Print your photos ahead of time so you’ll be ready to get started. Make sure you leave your photos untrimmed after they are printed.

Step 2: Use twine to wrap around the board. I started on the back side of the board and used a stapler to secure the twine to the wood.

Step 3: After you secure the end of the twine, you can begin wrapping it around the board. I criss-crossed my twine to create an interesting pattern on the front side of the board.

Step 4: Now it’s time to play with the washi tape. I chose the skinny strips from the Moonstruck washi sheets and placed them along the four edges of each of my photos.

Step 5: After each side of your photo is covered with washi tape, you can trim away the excess photo paper with your paper trimmer.

Step 6: I decided to use small clothespins to attach my photos to the twine. The clothespins are perfect for covering with washi tape too. I placed a few designs on my clothespins. If you need to trim off any excess washi tape, just use a craft knife along the edges of the clothespin.

Step 7: Now you can add your photos to the board. Just clip them to the twine with your clothespins and grab some of the embellishments from the Moonstruck collection to embellish your photos. 

And that’s it! You can interchange the photos and coordinate your collections and washi tape to create unique looks for your project!

Pink Paislee | Home Decor Dreamcatcher

It's Home Decor week on the Pink Paislee Blog, and the Design Team has some great inspiration in store for you!  I started things off yesterday, with a Dreamcatcher created with the new Moonstruck collection and an Embroidery Hoop.

The Dreamcatcher trend has been popping up in the paper crafting world, so I thought it would be fun to interpret it into a Home Decor piece.  My daughter's love it when I make projects like this and they usually fight over who gets to have it in their room.  HA!  This time the younger sister won out.

This project was fun and easy to put together. I used a 9″ embroidery hoop which you can find at your local craft store for a very low price. I cut a circle from one of the Moonstruck patterned papers to fit behind the embroidery hoop. You could also do the opposite if you wanted to and add your circle over the top of the embroidery hoop. Next, I cut a 9″ spiral cut file to layer over the patterned paper before adhering it to the embroidery hoop.

Once I had the paper adhered to the embroidery hoop, I grabbed the three feathers from the Moonstruck ephemera pack. I machine stitched through each of the feathers, leaving a long piece of thread at the top and bottom of each one. I also die cut two feathers on my Silhouette Cameo from two different Moonstruck patterned papers and stitched those as well. Then I hung each feather by placing the thread on the back side of the patterned paper and securing it with washi tape.

I finished the dreamcatcher design with a few more embellishments from the Moonstruck ephemera pack and puffy stickers. I added dimension to the project by stitching through the butterflies and folding the wings before adhering them to the patterned paper. If you wanted to personalize your home decor dreamcatcher even more, you could paint your embroidery hoop before assembling it or even add your favorite ribbon or trim on the outside edge of the circle.

Pink Paislee | Diagonal Canvas

Angles can be used to add a lot of interest to your projects. I love to use diagonal lines on my layouts, but it’s also fun to create a diagonal look on your other projects. I used a mix of patterned paper strips to create a diagonal design on an 8×8 canvas that would look great displayed on the wall.

I’ve got a step-by-step tutorial to share with you, showing how easy it is to create this canvas.

Step 1: Use your paper trimmer to cut a variety of paper strips. The manufacturer strips at the bottom of the 12×12 patterned papers are perfect for this step.

Step 2: Use a liquid adhesive or Mod Podge to cover your canvas. I used a foam brush to add the adhesive and only coated one half of the canvas at a time so I could add the patterned paper strips before the adhesive had time to dry. Start your diagonal design by adding your first strip along the diagonal of the canvas.

Step 3: Once your first strip is in place, start adding the rest of the patterned paper strips that you cut. Place them right up against one another so the canvas doesn’t show through.

Step 4: Once all of the paper strips have been added and your adhesive is dry, use a pair of scissors or craft knife to trim the excess paper from the canvas.

Step 5: Now that your diagonal design is finished, grab some coordinating embellishments and decorate your canvas.

This project can be altered in so many ways to fit your home decor and it’s a fun technique to try on your layouts too!

Pink Paislee | Altered Embroidery Hoop

I love Thickers, but always have letters left over in all of my packs.  This week the Pink Paislee team is sharing ideas for using Thickers on your layouts and projects.  I wanted to create an altered embroidery hoop using the letters from the Paige Thickers in the Fancy Free collection, that never seem to get used.  I have a tutorial to share, showing how I used the embroidery hoop and Thickers to create my altered project.

   

Step 1: Select an embroidery hoop that fits the size of your project and a patterned paper you would like for covering your hoop.

Step 2: Loosen the outer ring of your embroidery hoop and remove the inside ring. Use a pencil to trace around the outside hoop or cut a circle on your electronic die cut machine to the same dimensions as your embroidery hoop.

Step 3: Decorate your patterned paper circle before adding it to the embroidery hoop. I used the Paige Thickers from the Fancy Free collection to create a textured background over my patterned paper. 

Step 4: Once you are finished placing all of the Thickers there will be some that overlap the edge of your circle. Use small scissors to carefully trim away the excess Thickers.

Step 5: Add adhesive around the edge of the embroidery hoop. Carefully adhere your patterned paper circle over the top side of the hoop. Then you can put the two hoops back together.

 

Tip: You could also add your patterned paper on the bottom side of the embroidery hoop to create a recessed design.

I loved using an embroidery hoop for this project!  I hope I've inspired you to find fun ways to use those unused Thickers, in your next crafty project!
