Hip Kit Club | I'm Sweet On You

Hi everyone!  I’m back today to share a bright, colorful layout for Hip Kit Club using the July 2015 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits.  I’ve been dying to use the October Afternoon Flower Garden paper included in the July 2015 Main Kit and the July 2015 Paper Add-On Kit.  The colors are so pretty.  But since it’s a very busy pattern, I wanted to use it in smaller amounts.  I used one of the fun cut files designed by Kim Watson, and cut two layers for the flowers.  I used the OA paper for the background of the flower and cut the top piece of the cut file from the AC Grapefruit cardstock included in the July 2015 Cardstock Add-On.  And I stitched around each of the flowers before adhering them to the background paper.

Before adhering the flowers to the White cardstock, I added some color using the Abandoned Coral Distress Paint from the July 2015 Color Add-On.  I dabbed the color on some packaging and used a small brush with some water, to paint the color around the circles. I also splattered some of the paint onto the background, using the brush.

I wanted to use a mix of embellishments from the July Kits to create clusters on each side of my photos.  The Elle’s Studio wood veneers and bits, Crate Paper Chipboard and October Afternoon puffy stickers and flair buttons, were perfect for creating dimension and texture around the photos.  I knew I wanted to use the Crate Paper Journey Thickers and the October Afternoon Mason Jar Alphas, from the July 2015 Project Life Kit, for my title.  But I had two problems.  I had already used some of the letters from the OA alphas and I didn’t have some of the ones I needed, and I had the same problem with the Journey Thickers.  So a “W” from the OA alphas, became an “M” and the number 3’s from the Journey Thickers, became “E’s”!

And because I can’t seem to make a layout without having a touch of Black on it, I finished the layout with some splatters of Black Color Shine.  I’ve loved creating with the July 2015 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits, and now I’m looking forward to the August Kits!  There are some of my favorite new goodies in the August Kits, including products from Pinkfresh Studio and Crate Paper!  If you haven’t had a chance to check them out, make sure you head over to the Hip Kit Website and pick your favorite kit…or all of them…before they sell out!

Hip Kit Club | Lunch @ Ralphie's

I love the colors of the patterned papers in the July 2015 Hip Kits from Hip Kit Club!  And the patterns are great too.  Perfect for adding color to your layout.  I decided to use a mix of papers from the Main Kit and the July Paper Add-On Kit, behind a cut file, to bring in some color, without overwhelming the page.  The photo on this layout, is from A Christmas Story house, from our visit to Ohio back in May.  I thought the Hip2BSquare background cut file from The Cut Shoppe would go perfectly with the retro look in the photo.

I used the Backyard Lights patterned paper from October Afternoon, for the background paper.  I didn't want a solid background, so this paper was great, because it still had a pattern, but wasn't really busy.  Then I backed some of the open spaces of the cut file and left some spaces open, for the background paper to show through.  And I added one of the Simple Stories chipboard frames from the July 2015 Embellishment Kit, behind my photo, to help it stand out from the background.

I used a few more of the Simple Stories frames around the page, and added a mix of embellishments to the center of each frame.  The Elle's Studio wood veneers and Bits went perfectly with the theme of my layout.  I finished by adding a bit of Black Color Shine, for some contrast on my layout.

This would also be a fun technique to try with the scraps from your Kits.  Those small pieces of patterned paper are great for filling open spaces in cut files!

Hip Kit Club | Life Is Like a Camera

This week, I decided to incorporate one of the Hip Kit Freebie Friday cut files (coming to you in the Hip Kit FB Forum, this Friday) on my layout.  I was inspired by the July 2015 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits, to create a Pinwheel designed cut file.  The colors and patterns are perfect for your Summer layouts, and Summer always makes me think of Pinwheels.  I started my layout, by cutting the Pinwheel cut file on my Silhouette Cameo, from the Crate Paper patterned paper included in the July 2015 Main Kit and the Paper Add-On Kit.

I wanted some color behind the cut file, so I backed it with the bright striped paper from Fancy Pants.  Once my background was completed, I layered my photo over one of the cards in the Project Life Add-On Kit, and then decided to add my title along the circle shape of the cut file.  I used the Crate Paper Thickers and the October Afternoon letter stickers from the Project Life Add-On Kit to create the title.

There are so many fun embellishments in the July Kit, and I couldn’t decide what to use, so I went with a little bit of everything!  I love the Shimelle Cork Stickers from the July 2015 Embellishment Kit, and the Ampersand was perfect to add at the center of the Pinwheel.  I also used two of the clouds from the Cork Stickers, to create a diagonal line, with the clouds and Ampersand.  And the October Afternoon enamel dots are so fun, because of the mix of shapes.  I alternated the dots, hearts and stars around the Ampersand at the center of the cut file.  The Embellishment Kit also includes an October Afternoon phrase stamp, and I used it to stamp around the outside edges of the Pinwheel, in Black ink to add some contrast and define the outside lines of the cut file.

Hip Kit Club | Sea Food Eat Food

It's all about food on my new layout this week, using the July 2015 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits from Hip Kit Club!  I love that you can pretty much pull a mini kit out of the mix of Hip Kits, that you receive each month.  I wanted to work with some of the Elle's Studio Let's Eat collection, included in this month's Kit.  I used the Five Stars patterned paper from the July Main Kit and the July Paper Add-On Kit, as my background.

The July Main Kit also includes the Elle's Studio Lets' Eat Bits and Wood Veneers.  These were perfect for embellishing my layout, to go with the food photos.  I added a mix of the Bits and Wood Veneers down the intersecting line of the diagonal pattern, and stitched with my sewing machine.  After the embellishments were in place, I added my photos on the diagonal lines.

For my title, I used the Crate Paper Thickers in the Main Kit and the October Afternoon alpha stickers from the Project Life Kit.  And for a fun touch of journaling, I used the October Afternoon alpha stickers to add the name of the dish with each photo.  I finished up my layout, by adding some of the October Afternoon Enamel Dots and the Shimelle Cork Stickers, that are available in the July Embellishment Kit.

Hip Kit Club | Just Keep Swimming

As soon as the July 2015 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits, arrived on my doorstep, I had to get it open and sorted!  And then I immediately started on my first layout!!  I just couldn’t wait to use all of those new goodies.  There is always one paper every month, that catches my eye and this month it was the Sunshine paper from October Afternoon, included in the July 2015 Main Kit and the July 2015 Paper Add-On Kit.  I really love the burst pattern, and decided to machine stitch down each row.  After I finished my stitching, I used the Abandoned Coral Distress Paint from the July 2015 Color Add-On Kit to add some splatters to the background.  I added some of the Distress Paint to plastic packaging and then used a brush with a little bit of water, to pick up the color and splatter it on the background.

I layered two photos over the fun cards included in the July 2015 Project Life Kit, and placed them in the center of the burst pattern.  I also used the Heidi Swapp wood veneer arrows, included in the Project Life Kit, to point toward the photos.  I decided to add the title to the right of my photos and I used a mix of the October Afternoon Letter Stickers and AC Thickers, from the Main Kit and the Project Life Kit.

I finished the layout, by adding several die cut hearts, cut from the Crate Paper Poolside paper.  Once the hearts were placed on the layout, in a scattered look, I added machine stitching down the center of each one.  I also printed my journaling on White cardstock and cut it into strips to add below the photos.

Blinks of Life Guest Designer

Pinkfresh Studio | On the Midway

Today is a farewell to an awesome Team!  I've loved being on Pinkfresh Studio for the past 6 months, and working with Kinnari and the talented Ladies on the DT.  But, it's the end of my term and time to lighten my work load a bit.  So I am stopping in today, and sharing my last layout, as a Design Team member for Pinkfresh!

 

I had the idea to use some kind of die cut on my layout and then add some of my Pinkfresh embellishments.  So I cut a design from the Peace Out cut file from The Cut Shoppe, that left negative circle shapes on my White cardstock and then added the awesome Wood Drop Stickers and Neon Brad Stickers to the centers of some of the circles.

And to go along with the bright colors on my page, I chose one of the Drop Sticker labels and added it above my photo, and adhered some number stickers to represent the number for our kids.

Blinks of Life Guest Designer

I was so excited to receive an email from Natalia Bun, inviting me to guest design for Blinks of Life, using the October Kits, Cinnamon Roll and Sugar & Spice!  The kits have a great mix of patterned papers and embellishments, and I loved creating with them!  I completed a total of five layouts with the Kits, and wanted to stop in today, to share two of them with you.

This was actually my last layout, using the Kit and I wanted to make use of the awesome sticker sheet from October Afternoon.  I decided to repeat my photo and do a photo strip look, and then place the stickers down the side of the photo strip. I cut the large title from the October Afternoon patterned paper, using my Cameo and the Selfies & Usies cut file from The Cut Shoppe.

 

On this layout, I wanted to create a fun look, with the diamond pattern.  I cut squares from three of the patterned papers included in the Sugar & Spice Kit, and added them to the background paper.  I wanted to keep my title and embellishments clustered around the photo, to keep from covering up the diamond background.  And I used the pops of Red, to draw the eye around the page.

A Flair for Buttons | Love Captured

I have a new layout to share today, for A Flair for Buttons, using two of the Flair sets from the Etsy Shop!  If you're like me, then I am sure you love to embellish your layouts.  And Flair Buttons are perfect for that purpose!  You can add your Flair Buttons to other embellishments on your projects, for a one of a kind look!

I used the Flair Buttons to embellish the October Afternoon chipboard camera and the 3x4 Picture This Printable, from my Etsy store, The Cut Shoppe.  The Flair Buttons I used, are from the Krafty 1 set and the Number Phrases 1 set.  I love that the Buttons balance out my design, and blend in perfectly with the colors on my layout.  I only used one piece of patterned paper on this layout and let my other colors come from the photos, Flair Buttons, spray mist and embellishments.  And since I used a grid design on this layout, it wasy quick and easy to put together!

So next time you're looking through your embellishments, grab your Flair Buttons and see how you can liven up what you have on hand, and get those embellishments on a layout, card or project!
